Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Collegium 1704, Orchestre baroque et ensemble vocal, Prague
Václav Luks, fondateur et directeur artistique
The Collegium 1704, a vocal and instrumental ensemble from Prague, owes its name to a milestone in the biography of Jan Dismas Zelenka - the first performance in August 1704 of the Jesuit Latin school drama Via Laureata in Prague - a composer at the Dresden court and an esteemed acquaintance of Johann Sebastian Bach. Even if they feel at home in the entire Baroque repertoire, these seasoned musicians are particularly close to Bach’s great vocal works. Which work would thus be more fitting for their Montreal debut than the great Mass in B minor, summa of all of Bach’s sacred music.
