In this programme seldom heard masterpieces share the stage with beloved works by Johann Sebastian Bach. Henry Purcell, famous for his opera Dido and Aeneas, remains today the greatest of all English composers. The “sweet dissonance” of his unusually titled Chacony will surely enchant you, as will Benjamin Britten’s hauntingly beautiful Serenade, a setting of six poems on the subject of night.
