Chers amis et passionnés du grand Bach !Quel plaisir de vous transmettre en ce début d’été les plus récentes nouvelles du prochain Festival Bach de Montréal, qui se déroulera du 8 au 20 novembre prochains. Les détails de cette 5e édition ont été d’ailleurs annoncés le mercredi 4 mai dernier, dans les locaux du Consulat général d’Allemagne, fidèle partenaire de notre festival et ce depuis les tous débuts, devant les représentants des médias et en compagnie de nos partenaires artistiques. Le Festival 2011Pour cet anniversaire, le FBM présentera 18 concerts et événements en 13 jours, répartis dans 8 lieux de diffusion, dont les nouvelles salles Bourgie et symphonique. Le FBM est aussi très fier d’annoncer le retour à Montréal du renommé claveciniste, organiste et chef d’orchestre hollandais Ton Koopman. En plus d’être le parrain d’honneur du Festival depuis 2007, M. Koopman donnera le 13 novembre un récital à l’orgue Beckerath de l’Église de l’Immaculée-Conception; le lendemain 14 novembre, il donnera une conférence sur J.S. Bach au Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, et y dirigera une répétition publique de l’orchestre symphonique du même établissement.
Véritable rassembleur artistique, le FBM réunit un grand nombre de nos artistes et organismes musicaux (dont l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, les ensembles Arion et Masques, le Theater of Early Music, l’Orchestre de chambre McGill, le claveciniste Luc Beauséjour) et accueille, souvent pour la première fois à Montréal, quelques-uns des meilleurs artistes de la scène mondiale. Et il y aura vraiment de tout pour tous les goûts : Passion selon St-Jean, Variations Goldberg, œuvres pour orgue, cantates, sonates et partitas pour violon seul, concertos brandebourgeois, et plus encore.
Signalons tout particulièrement la violoniste allemande Isabelle Faust qui ouvrira le Festival le 8 novembre, et le pianiste russe Ilya Poletaev, grand gagnant du Concours Bach de Leipzig en 2010, en récital à Pollack Hall le 14 novembre. Le pianiste jazz américain Uri Caine proposera aussi le 17 novembre « sa version » des Variations Goldberg… une belle occasion de sortir des sentiers battus! Ajoutons enfin le récital donné le 15 novembre à la nouvelle Salle Bourgie par le violoniste américain Benjamin Beilman, 1er prix au Concours Musical International de Montréal en 2010.

Soirée bénéfice pour l’Orchestre de chambre McGillL’Orchestre de chambre McGill, fidèle partenaire artistique du Festival Bach, tiendra son concert bénéfice annuel le dimanche 5 juin prochain à 17 h à la Salle Maisonneuve de la Place des Arts. Concert donné par le Trio Rosenberg. Billets à partir de 25 $ en vente sur le site de la PdA.

The 2011 FestivalFor this anniversary edition, the MBF will present 18 concerts and events over 13 days, taking place in 8 venues, including the new Bourgie and symphony halls. The MBF is also very proud to announce the Montreal return of renowned Dutch harpsichordist, organist, and conductor Ton Koopman. As he has been since 2007, Mr. Koopman will once again be the Festival’s Honorary Patron this year, and will also appear in recital on the Beckerath organ at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on November 13; the next day, on November 14, he will give a talk about J.S. Bach at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and will conduct a public rehearsal by the Consevatoire’s symphony orchestra.
A truly unifying event, the MBF brings together many of the city’s artists and music organizations (including the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, ensembles Arion and Masques, the Theatre of Early Music, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour), and hosts some of the finest artists on the international music scene, many of whom are appearing in Montreal for the first time. The Festival really has something for everyone: St. John Passion, the Goldberg Variations, works for organ, cantatas, sonatas and partitas for solo violin, the Brandenburg concertos, and much more.
Of particular note are appearances by German violinist Isabelle Faust, who will open the Festival on November 8, and Russian pianist Ilya Poletaev, First Prize winner of the 2010 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, who will appear in recital at Pollack Hall on November 14. American jazz pianist Uri Caine will present “his version” of the Goldberg Variations on November 17… a perfect opportunity to stray off the beaten path! Also, appearing in recital in the new Bourgie Hall on November 15 will be American violinist Benjamin Beilman, First Prize winner of the Montreal International Musical Competition in 2010.

Benefit Evening for the McGill Chamber OrchestraThe McGill Chamber Orchestra, a loyal artistic partner of the Bach Festival, will hold its annual benefit concert on Sunday, June 5 at 5 pm in Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. Concert by the Rosenberg Trio. Tickets, starting at $25, on sale on the PdA website.
