Off-Festival Bach, ‘Off Bach’, was launched in 2019. Based in a 3000 square foot space in downtown Montreal, this new initiative was developed with the intention of creating a unique, contemporary and welcoming environment in which to make classical music accessible to a wide audience.

Open from 11am – 6pm daily for a three-week period during the Montreal Bach Festival 2019, Off Bach acted as a hub where the public could come to enjoy free recitals and open rehearsals, purchase tickets and merchandise, or simply to have a coffee or a glass of wine and chat. All events at Off-Bach are free of charge. During the festival period Off Bach also serves as the administration’s office space, making it a multi-faceted hub where audiences can not only enjoy free programming, but get to know the festival’s team and volunteers.

The first year of Off Bach was a brilliant success and was met with great enthusiasm; both the space and the recitals were full each day, with more than 1000 people attending Off Bach in its debut season.
